Exploring Armenia with Birthright Armenia

1 min read

Embarking on a journey with the Birthright Armenia program has been nothing short of transformative. Nestled in the heart of the Caucasus region, Yerevan, the capital city, has become my home away from home. Through volunteering with FemInno, an organization dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs, I've not only contributed to a meaningful cause but also witnessed the resilience and creativity of Armenian women firsthand.

Immersion in Armenian Culture

One of the most remarkable aspects of my time here has been the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and immerse myself in the vibrant culture of Armenia. In my free time, I stumbled upon the Karin Folk Dance Group, a beacon of tradition and artistry. Intrigued, I decided to join a few classes with one of their non-professional dance group Vahagn, and it has been an exhilarating experience. Dancing alongside locals, I've not only learned the intricate steps of Armenian folk dances but also forged friendships.

Every interaction, whether it's with fellow volunteers, locals, or members of the organizations I've been involved with, has broadened my perspective and enriched my understanding of the world. From sampling traditional Armenian cuisine to exploring ancient monasteries dotting the countryside, every moment has been a tapestry of new experiences and cultural exchange.

But beyond the sights and sounds, the people who have left an indelible mark on my journey. Armenians are known for their warmth and hospitality, and I've been fortunate to experience it firsthand. Whether it's sharing stories over a cup of strong Armenian coffee or learning traditional songs from elderly locals, each encounter has deepened my appreciation for the rich tapestry of humanity.

Armenia has always held a special place in my heart, but through Birthright, I've discovered a deeper appreciation for its treasures and traditions. From the rugged mountains to the ancient monasteries, every moment spent in this land of wonders is a testament to the enduring spirit of Armenia and its people.
