Layers of the Land, Poem by Varak Ghazarian
Step by step I walked, admiring Its beauty.
Speech after speech I talked, inspiring Its youth.
Second by second I observed, searching for Its life.
Minute after minute I submerged, enjoying Its people.
Hour by hour I fought, pushing past Its strife.
Day after day I thought, recalling Its wonder.
Week by week I continued, peering at Its originality.
Time after time I stopped, struggling with Its nuances.
Person by person I learned, describing Its history.
Town after town I yearned, invigorating Its future.
Mountain after mountain I climbed, attaining Its height.
Field by field I rhymed, figuring out Its reason.
Side by side I stood, attempting to be Its own.
Moment after moment I fell, realizing I am not Its own.
With Its beauty, Its youth, Its life, Its people…
It has stood the test of time and sped past mine.
Yet forever engrained deep within my mind
Were the mountains and fields that were so kind.
Artsakh. The never-ending beauty found within its borders
And Its incapability of falling under another’s orders.
Stay strong, magnificent, and far above.
Above where one can enter and feel all your love.
