Business and Finance, not cool enough, you said?

4 min read

Business backgrounds in finance, banking, accounting, and economic relations can help play a vital role in Armenia's development. For almost two decades now, our volunteers have been actively engaging in all types of projects, launching their own businesses, or simply adding value to existing ones. Where do they work? What do they do? Please read on…

Thinking of Volunteering in Private Sector? Government?

Thanks to our growing network of local partners, all volunteers have unique experiences here. Sevana Bekmezian from Canada is currently placed in the consulting department at Grant Thornton, conducting industry research on international accounting standards and assisting with business plans and presentation creation. "Through my volunteering, I helped the consulting team prepare and complete business plans for clients. At the moment, there aren’t many individuals tasked with completing these plans, so I was a big help to them for the period of time that I have been here," shares Sevana who happened to be at the right place at the right time. But there's more!

Working directly with the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economy, Remy Guirguis from Canada conducts research on regulatory documents and economy, analyzes data, and comes up with new methodological suggestions for various tasks as a part of a project on small and medium enterprise and capital market development. A recent grad from Ryerson University with a background in business, Remy was thrilled when the opportunity to work in the public sector, especially a job at the Ministry of Economy, presented itself.

Volunteer in Armenia, Outside of Yerevan

And when it comes to supporting the community and helping local organizations, our volunteers' activities expand beyond Yerevan, bringing change to different cities of Armenia. Thanks to our year-round program in Gyumri and the summer program in Vanadzor, many of our participants choose to dedicate their efforts to volunteering outside of Yerevan. Shant Kevorkian from Australia spent a part of his volunteering in Gyumri, where he was working with Nor Luyce youth mentoring NGO. Educated in finance, Shant helped the NGO bring together the budget reports for the last three years. Restructuring the budget allowed room for more spending, entailing new projects for the youth of Gyumri.

And what about you? Are you also specialized in Business and Finance? A growing number of local organizations need your support. Check out some sample volunteer placements that are open right now. Have a different organization in mind? Respond to this email, let's talk!
